Speed Priority

One of the least things known about Pokemon is Speed Priority. When you think what moves go first, you usually think Speed controls that, but that's not always the case. There are moves, items, and even abilities that can change the order in which Pokemon attack - be it first or last.

There are 13 stages when it comes to Speed Priority, ranging from +5 to -7. The higher the priority, the more likely you are to go first. The lower the priority, the more likely you are to go last. But what if my Pokemon uses Mach Punch and the opponent's Pokemon uses Aqua Jet? Well, then Speed comes back to play. The Pokemon with the higher Speed stat gets to attack first. How about if I use Metronome and I get something like Shadow Sneak while the opponent uses Bullet Punch? The opponent's Pokemon using Bullet Punch will attack first, even if they're both a Stage 1 priority move. Is there something that 'breaks' this rule? Pursuit will always come first if the opponent switches out, even though Pursuit has a Stage o priority move. Other than that circumstance, switching will always go first.

There are items such as Quick Claw or Lagging Tail/Full Incense that can mess with the Speed Priority. If Quick Claw activates, a 3 in 16 chance, the Pokemon will go first. What if my Quick Claw activates while using Hydro Pump but my opponent uses, let's say, Ice Shard? The opponent's Pokemon would go first. Lagging Tail/Full Incense work just the opposite. This two items also override Trick Room.

Stall also messes with the order. A Pokemon will Stall will always go last. Although if a Pokemon with Stall uses a Priority Move, it will always go first if another Pokemon doesn't use a Priority Move. The ability Teasing Heart will also mess with the order. Teasing Heart will increase the priority of non-damaging moves by +1. So if you use Taunt and the opponent uses Leaf Storm, you will go first. If both Pokemon have Teasing Heart and use a non-damaging move with a Priority of 0, Speed will come back to play.

Yup. Nothing is known to have -2 priority at the moment.

It is. Extreme Speed has +2 while Fake Out has +1.

I thought it was Side Change.

I thought Extreemespeed was +3 and Fake Out was +2 and everything is shifted. Because Fake Out also has higher priority than normal priority moves.

You forgot Dragon Tail and Overhead Throw.

Right here. It turns out Fake Out has higher priority than Extreemespeed and can actually stop Follow Me

Thats because it wad updated today. Last time I went, Fake Out has a +1 priority. Blame if on Serebii for being slow to update it, not me.
